Installation and usage

The plugin is simple to install:

  1. Download the zip file
  2. Unpack the zip. You should have a directory called `picasa-widget`, containing several files and folders
  3. Upload the `picasa-widget` directory to the `wp-content/plugins` directory on your WordPress installation.
  4. Activate plugin
  5. Go to Design -> Widgets for configuration. It’s a must, before using the plugin.

Configuration

It is very important to make the configurations first! You have to provide a username (no password, just the username, to be able to identify your Picasa account) and than some options. Be sure to write whatever is needed.

This widget works in three ways.

  1. Mode 1. It just show a list of the last n albums.
  2. Mode 2. It shows the last n albums using their thumbnails.
  3. Mode 3. It shows last n pictures from the last m albums.

    For the moment no, only random photos from the last one album or last n albums. Maybe in a future version. Or modifying the actual version code.

    Mode 3 isn’t working. I’ve took a look at the code. I think the error is anywhere at line 73. The replacement of $item['guid'] isn’t working. Can you please help?

    I would love it if I could exclude certain albums from the “most recent” list tho. Just a suggestion for future releases.

    Great widget!

    It’s stopped working in mode 3 though. It worked when I fist installed, but now I can only get it to work in modes 1 and 2. Mode 3 shows the widget title, but no pictures.

    Any thoughts on what happened or how I can fix?

    Hi,

    Thanks for making the widget, I really like it very much.

    I would like to have 2 instances of it in my sidebar (one displaying mode 2, and the other displaying mode 3).

    Is there a way to do this, because after I have added it once, there is no ‘add’ button available to do so again (like there is in the text widget, for example)?

    I have repaired it, the rss link was incorrect, it had the ?alt=rsshl=en_US toghether (no & between rss and hl) instead of having them like this:
    alt=rss&hl=en_US

    I added the following lines right before line 73:
    $itemF['guid'] = str_replace(“alt=rsshl”,”alt=rss&hl”,$item['guid']);

    //testing purpose
    //echo str_replace(“entry”,”feed”,$itemF['guid']);

    //and finally modify the 73 line

    Wow… that’s a nice widget, but there’s a lot of errors if you try to validate the HTML.

    Closing paragraphs before the content, tags unclosed…
    Lucky me, I correct all this errors, but seriously, if you need help validating the HMTL, just tell us. We help you gracefully.

    The truth: I really don’t care too much about HTML validation. But I know that for some people is something sacred. I hope some people will still find how to use this work.     Until 2 days the plugin worked without problems, but since then the photos are no longer shown and the configuration was not changed.

    What could be the problem?

    I have this plugin working with Wordpress 2.8.4. Joe.
    However the Random from last album ‘1′ ‘2′ or ‘3′ does work most of the time but in some cases (once in 4/5 times when I reload my weblog) no photos show in my weblog sidebar. Also no error. When I refresh the pictures show again.

    I was using a diffent Picasa plugin in my sidebar that worked however your plugin has the great feature to show the Picasa picture text when you point your mouse on a picture.

    I hope the bug can be fixed in a new version.
    I saw the post from May ‘09 in which user Florin posted a solution but I don’t know what to change exactly to fix this.

    Hey Jerry… I added some white space through CSS. The plugin outputs a class of picasa-widget-img so you can use that as the hook. If you are not familiar with css, just add something like .picasa-widget-img{ margin: 10px; } to the style.css file in your theme folder. You can of course change the 10px to whatever you want.

    I would like to use this with the shadowbox plugin. Anyone know how to add rel=”shadowbox” to the link output? I tried to add that code to the picasa-widget.php file, but it broke the entire site. I think the “” are messing up the php code. I am not very good with php yet… anyone know a way to do this?

    I also have a problem with mode 3. It appears that if the webalbum has lots of pictures inside, the pictures do not show in the sidebar. I’m not sure which amount is the limit, but it is at least > 49.

    It’s the best for Picasa that i have ever seen but… i have a strage error.

    I do not have any major problems making this work using WP 2.8.5. Pretty all the features work. The only ones that do not seem to is the borders and spaces. I will have to do some CSS editing for that.

    The random selection also seems to be a bit quirky. It appears to pick the pictures from the same album. It then pick pictures from a different album. It never picks two pictures from two different albums. C’est la vie.

    It would be really great if this could link to the image instead of Picasa page. I have added a rel” but for the life of me can’t get it to load just the image… Any chance to get an update? Sandaruwan Gunathilake seems to have got it to work… but formating and compatability with other shadow/lightbox scripts break things.
